Hey, guys.

Hey, guys. I wanted to apologize for the timing of my last Remind message. Earlier today, long before the shooting, I programmed the message to go out to you at 7:30. I know about what's happened on campus, and I know it's a scary situation. Some little quiz in my class is nowhere near as important as our safety as a campus community. If you need some help processing what has happened, your teachers and counselors are always here for you. Have a safe night, everyone.

Harlem Renaissance: Langston Hughes

Today, we started reading poetry from the Harlem Renaissance. We are starting with Langston Hughes, one of the most prolific writers of the time period.

Click here to download a blank copy of today's poetry handout.

This first video is an audio recording of him reciting "The Negro Speaks of Rivers." He begins by providing some context for when he was inspired to write the poem, and then he recites the poem.

This is an audio recording of Langston Hughes reciting "I, Too."

This last video is a video of Langston Hughes performing his poem with a live band. (First, a news anchor comes on the screen and introduces Hughes and the band, then the camera pans over to Hughes and the band. The recitation of the poem begins after Hughes speaks a few lines.)
